PROBUS CLUB OF THE SUSSEX WEALD
14 NIGHT OCEAN CRUISING on P&O’s SHIP ARTEMIS
to THE BALTIC - AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2010

Following our very enjoyable cruise in June 2009 this adventure was a 15 night cruise to the Baltic sailing on Artemis
our party on board ARTEMIS. . . . .

.

...... Our itinerary is shown on the map; but our journey stated from home where our
coach picked up at our front door to deliver us to the Cruise Terminal. Once on the coach
we didn't see our luggage again until we arrived in our cabin.
The following day we had a pleasant cruise into Oslo where we had to dodge the heavy
showers, but that didn't dampen our appetite for a good evening meal as we sailed to
Copenhagen for another day of exploring; this time under blue skies.

Our next stop was in Visby; some of us wondered
why we stopped at this small island of Gotland
but it was a gem of a place full of history and
not surprisingly it is one on the UNESCO
Heritage list
Over
night we had a leisurely cruise for the short hop to Stockholm and another fine
day.
We should have stopped at Helsinki but the winds were too high so we had two days
of slow speed cruising to be able to arrive early in St Petersburg for a two day stay.
We all went off heritage hunting and some went to evening performances of Opera
and Local Folk dancing. A well worth visit. Some even went on the metro, the flee market,
food market and tea in someone's apartment.

Needless to say we were well looked after whilst onboard with great entertainment and food all day long.
and
we must mention we had P&O's first lady Captain (seen here signing our piggy
bank to help save up for next year's cruise)

We
sailed homeward and stopped off in Germany and Belgium. So naturally
we had to buy chocolates to end off a very enjoyable cruise before
returning to Southampton and the coach that delivered us and
our memories back to our home
Thanks to Mike and Maureen for setting up the whole experience.
