MID-WEEK HOLIDAY to EAST ANGLIA in JUNE 2010
We have seen the Thursford Christmas Spectacular Show on many occasions. Now we have seen Thursford in the summer as part of a super mid-week holiday blessed with great sunny weather at Warner's Gunton Hall Coastal Resort near Lowestoft.
Our holiday started well when our coach literally sailed non-stop around the M25 so we arrived in Bury St Edmunds with time to spare for a leisurely coffee and cake break. We visited the Georgian Theatre Royal which was built in 1891 and had a very good conducted tour; being made more interesting by the fact that they were rehearing for the evening show to give a feel of the character of the theatre. Following that we lunch in their restaurant and time to wander the medieval town. Then off to Warner's in time for dinner and their evening entertainment.
The highlight was a day out at Thursford. We
stated with coffee followed by very interesting tours behind the scenes to see
the old workshops and the backstage facilities that make for a super Christmas
show. After a superb lunch we listened to Robert Wolfe who played happy Birthday
to Ken on the Wurlitzer. Then we all enjoyed ourselves on the fairground
roundabouts before afternoon tea and a relaxing journey back to Warner's in time
for Ken's birthday celebration.

On a bright sunny day and cruised on Oulton Broad for a smooth relaxing boat ride with coffee and cake (of course). We visited Southwold, had our monthly walk to the beach and took part in activities on site. On the journey home we stopped off for coffee and lunch at the delightful National Trust Anglesey Abbey estate.

... of course we had to have a get-together with a re-union coffee morning.
Many thanks to Mike and Maureen for arranging a very enjoyable holiday.
