PROBUS CLUB OF THE SUSSEX WEALD - POPULAR WEEKEND BREAK TO
THURSFORD CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR - NOVEMBER 2009

We
set off by coach early in the morning on 26th November 2009 for a weekend away
to see
the
Thursford Christmas Spectacular Show. On our way to our hotel in Kings Lynn we stopped off at
Peterborough to feast on coffee and cakes in the cathedral precincts.
Then for an interesting conducted tour of the magnificent cathedral. Our guides were excellent.
Our hotel for the three night holiday was the Best Western Knights Hill Hotel , which is located on the outskirts of Kings Lynn
and on Friday morning we went to a local glassworks to see a superb demonstration of glass making before
retuning to the hotel for
a late lunch and to get
ready to see the show.

At
4.30 p.m. we set off for the short journey to Thursford;
to look round fantasy land, visit the shops and enjoy the show
which most of us judged it to be the best, even if the Keith the local farmer and
comedian wasn't on the stage this year.

On Saturday
morning we set off for Kings Lynn where Dr Paul Richards gave us a short talk on the town's
history
and of course we had our morning coffee.
Then we broke into small groups for escorted tours of the town before returning to the
Green Quay for lunch; again the town guides were excellent even in the cold weather.
After lunch some of us went shopping, others toured the local sites and
some went back to the hotel for a swim or a rest.
Saturday
finished with a festive evening dinner
and being entertained by Keith
the
hither to Thursford favourite comedian.
A good evening was had by all.
On the way home on Sunday we stopped off for coffee
at Audley End House where it was transformed in to the Victorian era
to round off a very enjoyable and interesting weekend.
Many thanks to Mike and Maureen for organising a great weekend away.
